South Forsyth Middle School is a middle school in Cumming, Georgia. 995 students attend the middle school which at one time emptied into South Forsyth High School;[1] however, it has since been relocated to accommodate the increase in student population. South has a football field and earned two accountability awards from the state of Georgia; Bronze For Highest Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards[2], and Platinum for Greatest Gains.[3] They have an Academic Bowl team that took runner-up in the district competition.
There are five halls; the entrance, the connection hall, the eighth grade hall, the seventh grade hall, and the sixth grade hall. There are twelve classrooms in each grade halls, and in the connection hall, there is an indoor gym and seven classrooms.
The school mascot is the Eagles and the spirit colors are blue, black and white.
In 2009 South Forsyth went 7 - 0 in football and lost to Lakeside Middle School, Forsyth County's newest middle school.
Also Three out of four basketball teams won the county championships, which included the 7th grade girls, 7th grade boys, and 8th grade girls. The seventh grade boys won 11-2
There are 7 periods in a school day, 5 academic and 2 connection classes. The new 2008-2009 school year schedule has proven to be difficult for many students to understand. You may chose between Musical Theater or Band before joining the school, either in 5th grade or when you first come. Band and Musical Theater are year-long classes. This past year the 7th and 8th grade band got all superiors at LGPE.(large group performance evaluation) In 7th grade you have the option to join yearbook, the class where you help the Art Teacher, Mrs.Jackson create the yearbook. In Band you get to learn how to play an instrument, then you perform concerts at halfway through the school year and at the end of the year. In musical theater you perform plays such as the Mulan and Dear Edwina.This year, the Musical Theater department is led by Bob Upton. The 7th graders starred in the production of Dear Edwina, and the 8th graders are performing Mulan, with help from the 7th graders as extras. They have a Math Counts Team that won 6th place at a competition at the University of Georgia.
South Forsyth Middle School's football team is very slow developing. They only won one game in the 2011 season to the Liberty Patriots. The took a hard loss to the new school, Lakeside Middle School. Lakeside middle schools Brennan McCrum was the leading rusher and MVP and ended the game with huge stats. 2 Rushes for -3 yards, 0 Touchdowns, and a muffed punt. He went all county and now is a starter on the South Forsyth High School varsity football team. The Girls Volleyball had a good undefeated season led by star player John West. She had a great season and took charge with he leadership skills.
This year for 2009–2010, Ms. Pizarro, an eighth grade Spanish teacher, has been voted for the teacher of the year. Congratulations to Ms. Pizarro.
The high score for AR (Accelerated Reading) points in the school was set by Chan Jong with more than 2000 points in the year 2008 and the record still stands.
In the year 2008-2009, the Forsyth County Board of Education decided to establish an additional school Lakeside, and the population of the school has declined.
